A Room Designed Around the View
The newly reimagined accommodations at Surf & Sand are refined without competing with the property’s greatest luxury: the Pacific Ocean.
Expansive glass doors and private balconies create a seamless connection between indoors and out, allowing the changing colors of the water and sky to become part of the room throughout the day.
Some of the most memorable moments of our stay were also the simplest.
There was something wonderfully indulgent about making an espresso in the room first thing in the morning and carrying it outside to the balcony, still wrapped in a robe, with nothing but ocean stretching toward the horizon.
Then there was the soaking tub.
Positioned to take advantage of the incredible coastal setting, a long soak accompanied by views of the Pacific transformed an everyday luxury into something genuinely special.
And when staying in a room this beautiful, there is very little incentive to leave it unnecessarily. In-room dining meant we could enjoy room service without sacrificing a moment of the view.
Falling Asleep to the Pacific
Luxury can be measured in beautiful interiors and thoughtful amenities, but sometimes the things that stay with you most cannot be manufactured.
At Surf & Sand, it was the sound of the ocean.
At night, the gentle, soothing rhythm of the waves filled the room, creating the kind of natural soundtrack no sleep machine could ever adequately reproduce.
Falling asleep to the Pacific and waking to it again the following morning became one of my favorite parts of the entire stay.
Cocktails at the Water’s Edge
Days here seem designed to unfold slowly.
The resort’s oceanfront pool places you alongside the coastline, where afternoons can easily disappear between the water, a lounge chair and a cocktail in hand.
There is an effortless quality to it. You can spend the afternoon enjoying the California sunshine while the waves crash just beyond the pool, with cocktails and bites delivered poolside.
It is barefoot coastal luxury in its purest form.
Dinner at Splashes
Our evening at Splashes was another highlight.
Surf & Sand’s signature restaurant sits directly along the water, pairing its coastal-inspired menu with panoramic Pacific views and the sound of waves below.
Dinner was fantastic, but the setting makes the experience particularly memorable. As daylight begins to soften over the water, dinner becomes less about simply sitting down for a meal and more about lingering over the entire atmosphere.
Fresh, locally sourced ingredients influence the menu, while the restaurant’s wine program and spectacular setting make Splashes equally suited to a romantic dinner, celebratory evening or simply an excuse to stay at the resort and let someone else handle dinner.

A spectacular location may initially draw you to a hotel, but hospitality determines how you remember it.
Throughout our stay, the team at Surf & Sand was consistently pleasant, welcoming and genuinely lovely to interact with. The service complemented the relaxed nature of the property rather than interrupting it, creating an experience that felt polished without ever becoming overly formal.
It is exactly the balance a coastal luxury resort should strike.
